Surat Midnight Crash: VIP Road Turns Racing Track, Injures Mother Feeding Baby
Surat: VIP Road Racing Crash Injures Mother and Baby

A terrifying high-speed collision on the upscale VIP Road in Surat's Vesu area has exposed a dangerous culture of midnight street racing, leaving a mother injured while she was feeding her infant. The incident, which occurred in the early hours, involved luxury vehicles and has led to arrests by the Vesu police.

Luxury Cars and Reckless Speed Lead to Chaos

The chaos unfolded after a group of friends, returning from a pre-wedding musical event at the YPD Convention Centre in Dumas, decided to speed towards a hotel in Godadara. According to Vesu police inspector J I Patel, the drivers of a Mahindra BE 6 and a BMW were hurtling down the road at alarming speeds. The situation turned catastrophic when the Mahindra, allegedly driven by Manthan Patel (23), rammed into the BMW driven by Zalak Ahir (25). The impact forced the BMW into a sedan moving ahead of it.

The sedan, driven by Ritesh Jain, was moving at a regular speed. At the moment of impact, his wife was in the passenger seat, feeding their two-month-old baby. The violent collision resulted in significant injuries to the woman and left all three vehicles severely damaged. Police officials remarked that it was a miracle the entire family survived the high-force crash.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Acting swiftly, the Vesu police arrested Manthan Patel and detained his friend, BMW driver Zalak Ahir, along with passenger Rushi Patel (25). A critical piece of evidence recovered from Patel's car was a bottle of vodka, raising immediate suspicions of intoxication. To confirm this, blood samples were collected from all the accused for forensic analysis.

While the accused have denied racing, CCTV footage circulating on social media appears to tell a different story. The videos show the two cars speeding down the road. Police sources indicate the vehicles may have been travelling at speeds exceeding 100 kmph. Inspector Patel stated, "The accused claimed they were not racing. But we have collected video and forensic evidence to establish the truth." Another passenger, Harsh Kakadiya, is still being sought by the police.

Charges and Aftermath

Manthan Patel has been formally booked under sections of the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving and also under the Prohibition Act. The profiles of the individuals involved reveal they are young professionals: Patel is a textile trader, Zalak Ahir works in real estate, and Rushi Patel is in the diamond business. Patel and Rushi hail from Varachha, while Ahir resides in Vesu.

This incident has sparked outrage among Surat's residents, highlighting how posh areas like Vesu are being turned into illegal racing tracks by reckless speedsters. The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities meticulously examining all evidence to ensure strict legal action is taken against those responsible for endangering innocent lives.
