Grisly Discovery Sparks Police Investigation in Ahmedabad
A shocking case of suspected animal cruelty has emerged in Ahmedabad, leading to a formal police investigation. The Adalaj police registered a case on Saturday after a stray dog was found dead and hanging from a roadside billboard.
The incident occurred on an open plot near the Lubi corporate office on the Khodiyar-Zundal road. The distressing scene was first reported late on Friday night.
Family's Horrifying Find Leads to FIR
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant is Ashita Patel (30), a resident of Tragad. In her statement, Patel explained that the white and brown dog, approximately four years old, was a regular sight in her housing society and the surrounding lanes.
Her father routinely fed the stray dogs in the area. On Thursday evening around 7 pm, he left home on his two-wheeler for his feeding round and returned close to midnight. He then informed the family about seeing their neighbourhood dog hanging upside down, tied with a rope to a billboard in an abandoned plot.
Ashita and her sister immediately accompanied him to the location, where they confirmed the grim discovery. The complaint noted that the dog appeared to have been killed before being hung on the billboard.
Police Probe and Suspected Motive
The family first called an emergency helpline and was advised to contact local police. Their initial approach to the Chandkheda police station redirected them to the Adalaj police station, which holds jurisdiction over the area.
Police officials reached the spot, conducted a site inspection, and initiated a detailed investigation. The probe aims to determine the exact cause of death and verify if the dog was assaulted before it died.
The FIR raises suspicion against security guards posted at the gate of the complainant's housing society. Ashita Patel stated that on Thursday morning, one of the guards was bitten on the finger by a dog, which may have prompted a retaliatory act.
She further alleged there were earlier instances where guards attempted to chase or beat stray dogs near the society. Adalaj police officers confirmed they are questioning the security staff in the area and examining available CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.
This incident has highlighted ongoing tensions between community members who care for stray animals and those who view them as a nuisance, underscoring the need for lawful and humane conflict resolution.
