Stepson Held for Murdering Farmer in Ludhiana; Second Wife Among Three at Large
In a shocking development from rural Ludhiana, the police have claimed to have solved the blind murder of a farmer, with the arrest of his stepson. The victim, identified as Harjinder Singh, a resident of Jandi village in the Sidhwan Bet area, was found dead in his home on Wednesday afternoon, lying in a pool of blood.
Arrest Made, Manhunt Underway for Remaining Suspects
The key suspect, Jaskaran Singh, who is the stepson of the deceased, was apprehended by authorities within hours of the crime being reported. However, the investigation is far from over, as three other individuals remain fugitives. These include the victim's second wife, a servant, and another villager, all allegedly involved in the murder plot.
Supervised by SSP Ludhiana (Rural) Ankur Gupta and SP (D) Rajan Sharma, separate police teams have been dispatched to track down and arrest the remaining suspects. SP Sharma stated, "Having identified Jaskaran on the basis of circumstantial evidence, we arrested him on Wednesday and obtained information about other suspects."
Background of the Property Dispute
Preliminary investigations have shed light on a long-standing family conflict that may have led to the murder. Harjinder Singh had lost his first wife and remarried 22 years later. His second wife and her son, Jaskaran, moved in with him. Tensions escalated after the deceased's son from his first marriage relocated abroad, leaving the second wife and her son to allegedly harass Harjinder over property division.
Authorities suspect that Jaskaran and his mother conspired to have Harjinder eliminated, possibly hiring others to carry out the act while maintaining an appearance of living separately. The police are still working to piece together the exact sequence of events that culminated in the brutal killing.
Investigation Details and Community Impact
The case came to light when Kuljinder Singh, a nephew of the victim, alerted the police on Wednesday afternoon, reporting that unidentified persons had killed Harjinder while he was alone at home. The swift arrest of Jaskaran has been hailed as a significant breakthrough, but the manhunt for the other suspects continues, highlighting the complexities of rural crime investigations.
This incident underscores the grim realities of property disputes in agricultural communities, where familial conflicts can sometimes turn violent. The police have assured the public that they are pursuing all leads to ensure justice is served in this tragic case.
