Sonbhadra: Robber arrested after police encounter near Kali Mandir

In a significant breakthrough, the Shaktinagar police in Sonbhadra district arrested an alleged robber following a brief encounter near the Kali Mandir bus stand on Saturday. The police successfully recovered a cache of stolen jewellery and an illegal firearm from the accused.

Police Action and Encounter Details

The operation was set into motion based on a specific tip-off received by Shaktinagar SHO Kamal Nayan Dubey. The information revealed that a man involved in a recent robbery was present near Jharna Basti on Helipad Road, close to the Kali Mandir bus stand. He was reportedly armed and in possession of the looted items.

A police team swiftly cordoned off the area. Upon realizing he was surrounded, the accused, identified as Sajan, opened fire at the officers. In retaliatory action, the police fired back, injuring Sajan with a bullet in his left leg. He was subsequently arrested and rushed to CHC Anpara for medical treatment.

Recovery and Case Background

From the accused, the police confiscated a .32 bore pistol and two empty cartridges. The haul of stolen jewellery was substantial and included:

  • A white metal chain
  • Eight pairs of white metal anklets
  • A piece of a white metal anklet
  • 13 amulets, a bangle, and toe rings
  • Lockets and a pair of four-tier earrings locket
  • Six nose rings

This recovery is linked to a robbery case registered under section 304(1) BNS at the Shaktinagar police station on November 15. Following the arrest and recovery, police have added more stringent charges, including sections 309(4), 317(2), 109(1) BNS, and 3/25 of the Arms Act.

Interrogation Reveals Conspiracy

During questioning, Sajan disclosed details of the planned heist. He revealed that the robbery was plotted at the house of his accomplice, Roshan, where Sonu and Rohit were also present. According to the plan, Rohit's role was to inform the group via phone as soon as the target jeweller closed his shop and departed.

On the day of the incident, after the jeweller closed shop and was heading home, Roshan and Sonu allegedly accosted him at gunpoint and snatched a bag full of jewellery. The police are now pursuing further legal action and investigating the roles of the other named accomplices.
