A 55-year-old man, Sunder Fauji, who was out on parole in a murder case, was shot dead on Thursday morning in Kasan village, Gurgaon. The attack was allegedly carried out by Rohan, the son of the man Sunder had killed eight years ago. Police have arrested both suspects.
Details of the Incident
Sunder Fauji, a former NSG commando serving a life term for a 2018 murder, had been granted 70 days of parole. He was shot by Rohan, the son of Bahadur Singh Sarpanch, whose murder led to Sunder's conviction. The second accused has been identified as Gulshan, a relative of Bahadur Singh.
The crime was captured on CCTV cameras at the scene. Police stated that the family had been waiting for an opportunity to avenge the sarpanch's death. Authorities will now investigate the source of the weapons used in the crime.
Sequence of Events
The incident occurred at 8:40 am, with Sunder suffering four gunshot wounds. Police received a call at 8:53 am. Forensic and fingerprint experts were called to examine the crime scene. Police recovered a country-made weapon, a pistol, three empty cartridges, and three live cartridges at the spot.
CCTV footage shows Sunder sitting near the Moni Baba shrine with two others when two armed men approached. Rohan fired multiple shots, while Gulshan's weapon malfunctioned during the attack. After being hit, Sunder fell off the platform and lost consciousness, while the two men with him ran to safety. Panic spread in the area as residents gathered, and both assailants fled.
Motive and Background
IMT Manesar Station House Officer Sunil Beniwal said that Rohan avenged his father's murder. In April 2018, Sunder shot dead Bahadur over a dispute involving Rs 27 lakh that he claimed was unpaid. Sunder was also under pressure from villagers who had lent money to the sarpanch on his guarantee.
Sunder alleged that the sarpanch and his associate misbehaved with him and pushed him out of a dairy, which provoked him to pull out his licensed pistol and fire eight bullets at Bahadur.
Legal Proceedings
Police said Bahadur is survived by four children, including two sons, while Sunder is survived by two daughters and a son. Eight suspects, including Rohan, Gulshan, Satpal, Manoj, Rahul, Buccha, Sarla, and Santosh, have been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy at IMT Manesar police station under sections 103(1), 3(5), and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
