Tragic Fire Claims Life of Software Engineer in East Bengaluru

A 34-year-old software engineer lost her life under suspicious circumstances following a fire at her residence in East Bengaluru. The incident occurred on the night of January 3 at a building on First Main Road, Subramani Layout, Ramamurthynagar.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The deceased has been identified as Sharmila Kushalappa, a native of Mangaluru who was employed with the software firm Accenture. According to the preliminary police investigation, the fire broke out in her second-floor apartment between 10:15 PM and 10:50 PM.

Residents of the building first noticed flames and alerted the owner, Vijayendra. He immediately called the fire and emergency services as well as the Ramamurthynagar police. Fire personnel rushed to the scene with water tankers.

Locked Door and Grim Discovery

Upon reaching the second floor, officials found the apartment locked from the inside. They had to break open the door to gain entry and begin dousing the flames. Inside, they discovered Sharmila unconscious near the kitchen.

She was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead. Police suspect she may have succumbed to suffocation after inhaling smoke.

Living Alone and Case Registered

Sharmila, who was unmarried, had been living alone in the two-bedroom apartment for the past year. Her friend, who previously shared the space, had left for her native place in Assam on November 14 last year.

The Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the fatal fire. The community and her colleagues at Accenture are in shock over the tragic loss of the young professional.
