Three Injured in Late-Night Shooting Incident in Patna Village
A violent altercation stemming from a long-standing land dispute resulted in a shooting incident in Byapur village, located under the Maner police station area in Patna district, late on Friday night. The clash occurred at the residence of the brother-in-law of Bihar's state agriculture minister, Ram Kripal Yadav, leaving three individuals injured, two of whom are in critical condition.
Details of the Incident and Injuries
The injured have been identified as Pappu, son of Rajendra Singh; Manish alias Guddu, son of the late Bhupendra Singh; and Nitish alias Bablu. According to reports, Manish and Nitish sustained serious gunshot wounds and were immediately rushed to AIIMS-Patna, where they are currently receiving treatment in critical condition. Pappu, who suffered less severe injuries, was treated at a private nursing home in Danapur and has since been discharged.
Family members of the victims stated that approximately two rounds of firing took place during the confrontation. They have accused Rakesh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Deepak, Prince—sons of the late Satendra—and others of opening fire and assaulting them with sticks and stones.
Police Response and Arrests
Maner Station House Officer (SHO) Rajneesh reported that upon receiving information about the clash, a police team swiftly arrived at the scene. However, all the accused had already fled by that time. In response, police launched extensive raids to apprehend the suspects.
The main accused, Rakesh, was arrested from Byapur on Saturday evening. SHO Rajneesh further disclosed that Prince fired two shots into the air during the incident and remains absconding. Raids are ongoing to capture all individuals involved.
The SHO explained that the dispute was rooted in personal issues between the two families. Based on the complaint filed by the injured parties, police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against five named individuals and an equal number of unidentified persons in connection with the case.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of land disputes in rural areas and underscores the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent such violent outbreaks.
