Shillong: Approximately 600 litres of illicit liquor was confiscated by Shillong Police and excise department officials during a joint operation carried out at illegal outlets in several locations in the state capital on Saturday night, police said.
The raid, conducted in the Polo, Jeep Stand, and Urkaliar areas, was led by additional superintendent of police, East Khasi Hills district, Saurav Saini and deputy superintendent of police (women & children cell), Joyti Wahlang.
“The seized liquor has been handed over to the excise department for seizure and further legal action as per provisions of law,” a police official said.
On the other hand, the city police are continuing with their drive against drink driving and illegal modification of vehicles in a city-wide enforcement initiative.
During the checking, police collected fines amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh from traffic rule violators, including from drunk drivers and owners of vehicles with illegal modifications.
