Security guard dies by suicide in Kandivali

A tragic incident unfolded in the Poisar area of Kandivali on Monday evening, where a 45-year-old private security guard died by suicide using his licensed firearm. The Samta Nagar police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the shocking event.

Details of the Kandivali Incident

The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Ojha, aged 45. He resided in Kandivali with his wife and two young sons, aged 14 and 12 years. Ojha was employed as a security guard at a jewellery shop located in the MIDC area of Andheri.

According to preliminary information from the police, Ojha followed his usual routine on Monday, January 6, 2026. He went to work in the morning and returned to his home around 4 pm. His wife and younger son were present at home at the time.

A Sudden and Fatal Act

After returning home, Ojha reportedly did not engage in conversation with his family members. He proceeded to lock himself in a room inside the house. Shortly after, a gunshot was heard. Ojha had used his licensed revolver to shoot himself in the head.

Alarmed family members and neighbours immediately alerted the police. Officers from the Samta Nagar police station rushed to the spot upon receiving the information. The victim was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

Police Investigation Underway

The police have registered a case of accidental death and are probing all angles. A forensic team was also dispatched to the scene to collect evidence. A significant challenge for the investigators is the absence of a suicide note. Officers confirmed that no note was found at Ojha's residence, leaving the motive for his extreme step unclear.

The exact circumstances leading to this tragedy will only become clear after a thorough investigation, a police officer stated. The officer added that the family members are currently in a state of profound shock and grief following the incident.

The case highlights serious concerns regarding mental health and access to firearms, even licensed ones. The police continue their inquiries to piece together the events that led to this personal catastrophe in Kandivali.
