The Supreme Court on Wednesday described cyber criminals as 'parasites' who are duping innocent investors, and emphasized the need for harsh measures against them. The top court made the observation while refusing to entertain a plea seeking clubbing of multiple FIRs lodged against a petitioner in different states.
Court's Strong Remarks on Cyber Crime
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh stated that cyber criminals are a menace to society, particularly targeting gullible investors. 'They are parasites. They have to be dealt with very harshly,' the bench remarked, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.
Plea for Clubbing FIRs Rejected
The petitioner had approached the Supreme Court requesting consolidation of FIRs filed against him in various states related to alleged cyber fraud. However, the court declined, noting that each case involves distinct facts and jurisdictions. 'We are not inclined to club these FIRs. The petitioner must face the law in each state,' the bench added.
The ruling comes amid a surge in cyber fraud cases, with authorities ramping up efforts to protect investors. The Supreme Court's stance signals a zero-tolerance approach towards cyber crime, reinforcing the need for stringent legal action.
Legal experts believe this judgment will deter cyber criminals and encourage victims to report such crimes without fear. The court also urged law enforcement agencies to coordinate better to tackle cross-state cyber frauds effectively.
