The case, which is linked to an illicit relationship, saw the recovery of the skeleton of a 22-year-old man who had been reported missing since August of last year. This development marks a crucial step in bringing closure to a tragic incident that has shocked the local community.
Discovery of Remains Near School Ground
The skeletal remains were discovered near a private school ground, following a disclosure made by the accused during police interrogation. The victim, identified as Prince Valmiki, was a native of Sagar and had been living in Deori with his wife before his sudden disappearance on August 20 last year. The recovery of his remains after such a prolonged period has shed light on the grim details of his fate.
Investigation Reveals Illicit Relationship Motive
Police investigations uncovered that the prime suspect, Shohaib, a local resident, had maintained a long-standing relationship with Prince Valmiki's wife. This relationship allegedly continued even after her marriage to the victim. According to authorities, Shohaib viewed Prince as an obstacle to his illicit affair and plotted to eliminate him. In a confession to the police, Shohaib admitted to luring Prince to the school premises, where he attacked him after consuming alcohol and subsequently disposed of the body in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Police Statement and Ongoing Procedures
Deori police station incharge Hari Ram Metkar provided detailed insights into the case. He stated, "The accused Shohaib had a relationship with the wife of the deceased before marriage, which continued after her marriage. So, he considered her husband to be a hurdle and wanted to eliminate him. It is for this reason that he committed the murder. However, our investigation reveals that the wife of the deceased was not involved in the conspiracy to murder; she was not aware of it." A formal case has been registered against Shohaib, and investigations are actively ongoing to ensure all aspects are thoroughly examined.
In addition to the arrest, police have announced that DNA tests will be conducted on the recovered skeleton to confirm the identity of the remains. This step is part of standard forensic procedures to solidify the evidence against the accused. The case highlights the complexities of personal relationships turning violent and the diligent efforts of law enforcement in solving such heinous crimes.
