Massive Drug Bust in Assam: Rs 5 Crore Yaba Tablets Seized, Two Arrested
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, police in Assam's Sribhumi district have seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 5 crore and arrested two persons from a residential property in Eraligul. The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, marks a major blow to illegal drug networks operating in the region.
Coordinated Police Raid Leads to Major Seizure
Acting on precise tip-offs, a dedicated team from the Patharkandi police station, under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Manash Jyoti Boro and with crucial assistance from Baraigram police, executed a meticulously planned raid on Thursday night. The targeted residence was thoroughly searched in the presence of independent witnesses to ensure procedural integrity and transparency.
During the intensive search operation, law enforcement officials recovered a staggering total of 73,399 Yaba tablets, with a combined weight of around 8.455 kilograms. This substantial haul underscores the scale of the illicit drug trade being targeted by authorities in the area.
Arrests Made as House Owner Evades Capture
While the house owner, identified as Kabir Uddin, managed to flee the scene before the police team's arrival, his wife Rehana Begum and another individual named Injamul Haque were apprehended directly from the premises. Both arrested persons were immediately transported to the Patharkandi police station for detailed interrogation and were subjected to several hours of rigorous questioning by investigators.
On Friday, formal legal proceedings were initiated as a case was registered against the duo under relevant sections of the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following the registration of the case, the arrested individuals were produced before a judicial court, which subsequently remanded them into judicial custody, pending further legal processes.
Manhunt Launched and Investigation Intensifies
In response to Kabir Uddin's escape, police have launched an extensive manhunt to trace and apprehend the fugitive house owner. Authorities are leveraging all available resources and intelligence networks to locate him and bring him to justice for his alleged involvement in the drug trafficking operation.
Simultaneously, a comprehensive investigation is actively underway to ascertain the precise source of the seized Yaba tablet consignment and its intended destination.
