The incident, which saw Rs 10 lakh in cash being snatched, occurred near the busy Exhibition Road area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Gandhi Maidan police station.
The Deceptive Distraction and Swift Snatch
According to the police report, the victim was an employee of Praveen Kumar Banka. The staff member, accompanied by a driver, was transporting the substantial cash amount as a partial payment for a flat sale. Their journey took a shocking turn when an unidentified stranger approached their vehicle.
The accused cleverly distracted the duo by claiming that some money had fallen from their car. As the concerned staff and driver turned their attention to check the ground around the vehicle, the thief seized the critical moment. In a flash, he grabbed the bag containing the Rs 10 lakh and disappeared into the crowded locality before the victims could react.

Following the complaint, the police have officially registered a case of theft and cheating. SHO Akhilesh Kumar Mishra confirmed that a thorough investigation has been launched to apprehend the culprit and recover the stolen money.
The investigative team is currently reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around Exhibition Road and Gandhi Maidan. The primary objective is to identify the stranger who executed the well-planned distraction and track his escape route. The police are hopeful that the digital evidence will lead them to the accused.
