Rourkela: Man arrested for ganja smuggling, 9.8 kg seized

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Sector-19 police in Rourkela apprehended a man from Jharsuguda district for the alleged illegal possession and transportation of a substantial quantity of ganja. The arrest occurred on Thursday, following a vigilant patrol operation by the police team.

Patrol Leads to Major Narcotics Bust

The incident unfolded around 8 pm on December 31. A police team led by Sub-Inspector R Behera from the Sector-19 police station was conducting a routine patrol in the area. Their vigilance paid off when they intercepted suspicious activity related to the smuggling of narcotics on Bank Street, located near the L&T office premises.

Accused Apprehended, Accomplices Escape

The police team successfully caught the prime accused, identified as Bikash Satnami, a resident of Mandalia in Brajrajnagar. However, his alleged accomplices, named as Jagan Tanty, Gochi Singh, and others from the same area, managed to flee under the cover of darkness. The accused were reportedly transporting the contraband in a white vehicle.

Upon search and seizure, the police recovered a total of 9.8 kilograms of ganja from the vehicle. From the apprehended accused, Bikash Satnami, the authorities also seized two mobile phones and Rs 500 in cash. The vehicle used in the alleged crime was also impounded by the police.

Investigation Underway to Nab Absconding Accused

Following the arrest, Bikash Satnami was taken to the Sector-19 police station for interrogation. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.

Police officials confirmed that further investigations are actively ongoing. A primary focus of the probe is to track down and apprehend the other accused individuals who managed to escape from the scene. The police are analyzing the seized evidence, including the mobile phones, to uncover more details about the smuggling network.
