In a proactive move to enhance public safety ahead of the festive season, the Ropar Police, in partnership with the Rotary Club Ropar, has launched a significant campaign on Thursday. This initiative focuses on installing iron safety guards on two-wheelers to shield riders from the hazards posed by Chinese kite strings, with Basant Panchami celebrations set for Friday.
Campaign Launch and Key Messages
The campaign was officially inaugurated outside Government College Ropar, located on the Ropar-Bela road. Leading the efforts, SSP Maninder Singh emphasized the severe risks associated with Chinese kite strings. He highlighted that these strings not only endanger human lives but also pose a threat to birds and animals, urging the public to refrain from using or selling them during this festive period.
Collaborative Efforts and Achievements
Kultar Singh, a dedicated member of the Rotary Club Ropar, provided insights into the campaign's progress. He revealed that approximately 700 two-wheelers have already been equipped with safety guards as part of this drive. Building on last year's success, around 15 volunteers from the club, in close cooperation with the police, have been actively involved in the installation process, demonstrating a strong community-police partnership.
Police Actions and Public Appeal
SSP Singh further detailed the Ropar Police's comprehensive approach to ensuring safety. He reported that, with public support, authorities have seized Chinese kite strings and spools from multiple locations across the region. Additionally, several cases have been registered against shopkeepers found selling these hazardous materials, underscoring the legal consequences of such actions.
In a stern appeal, SSP Singh cautioned the public against prioritizing financial gain over safety, warning that strict legal measures, including serious charges, will be enforced against anyone caught selling or using Chinese kite strings. This campaign underscores a collective effort to foster a safer environment during the festive celebrations in Ropar.
