Police identified the deceased as Tapas Roy, a retired employee of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies in Salt Lake. Roy was divorced and lived alone at his GD Block residence. His former wife resides in Jharkhand, while their only daughter is married and works in Delhi.
