Rare Parrot Vanishes in Andhra Pradesh, Owner Seeks Police Help
Rare Parrot Missing in Andhra Pradesh, Police Case Filed

In a peculiar incident emerging from the Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh, a local cloth shop owner has approached law enforcement authorities after his highly valued and rare pet parrot mysteriously disappeared. The case highlights the deep emotional bonds people form with their avian companions and the unusual situations that can arise in community disputes.

Avian Enthusiast's Costly Companion Goes Missing

Bandaru Dorababu, a resident of Kothapalem village under the Katrenikona panchayat, is known in his community as a passionate bird lover. In 2021, he made a significant investment in his avian passion by purchasing a Congo African Grey Parrot from Hyderabad for the substantial sum of Rs 80,000. This particular species is celebrated globally for its exceptional intelligence and remarkable ability to comprehend and mimic human language patterns.

Dorababu named his feathered companion Charlie and integrated the bird completely into his family life, treating it with the same care and affection typically reserved for human family members. The parrot became an integral part of the household, with its cognitive abilities and interactive nature creating strong emotional connections within the family.

Suspicious Disappearance During Festival Season

The troubling incident occurred on the auspicious day of Sankranti, when Charlie reportedly flew away from the family residence. Following an extensive search throughout the village, Dorababu's family members managed to trace the parrot to a neighbor's home within the same community. However, what should have been a straightforward recovery turned into a complex situation.

When Dorababu's family approached the neighbors and requested the return of their beloved pet, the residents allegedly claimed that the parrot had flown away once again from their premises. This explanation raised immediate suspicions for Dorababu, who began to believe that his neighbors might be deliberately confining Charlie rather than having lost track of the valuable bird.

Legal Intervention Sought for Avian Recovery

Frustrated by what he perceived as dishonest behavior from his neighbors and concerned for Charlie's wellbeing, Dorababu decided to escalate the matter formally. He approached the local police station in Konaseema district and filed an official complaint, seeking law enforcement intervention to help recover his rare parrot.

The police have now registered the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the parrot's disappearance. This unusual complaint brings attention to the legal complexities that can arise when valuable pets go missing and neighbors become involved in disputes over animal ownership.

The Congo African Grey Parrot remains one of the most sought-after avian species in the pet trade due to its cognitive abilities, with prices often reaching significant amounts in specialized markets. Dorababu's case underscores how emotional attachments to pets can sometimes lead to formal legal proceedings, even in matters involving non-human family members.
