In a shocking case of deception and blackmail, the A Division police in Rajkot have apprehended three individuals, including two women, for allegedly extorting a substantial sum of Rs 12 lakh from a retired schoolteacher. The accused are charged with employing a sophisticated honeytrap operation, utilizing secretly recorded sex videos and threats of false rape allegations to coerce the victim into compliance.
Mastermind and Associates Identified in Coordinated Sting
Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim, law enforcement officials swiftly moved to detain the alleged ringleader, Payal Patel, a resident of Gandhinagar. Her accomplices, Nilesh Zunza, aged 36, and Tejal Tindani, aged 31, were also taken into custody. The investigation reveals a premeditated plot designed to exploit the victim's vulnerability post-retirement.
Detailed Timeline of the Elaborate Honeytrap Operation
The retired teacher first encountered Payal Patel approximately one year ago at a school function in Botad. Patel presented herself as a professional involved in the real estate sector. After receiving his retirement funds, the victim reached out to Patel on October 31, 2025, to discuss a potential land purchase opportunity.
Having relocated to Ahmedabad after retirement, the teacher traveled with Patel to Rajkot by car to inspect a purported land parcel. During the journey, an additional woman, acquainted with Patel, joined them in the vehicle. Upon arrival in Rajkot, the group proceeded to a hotel, where the situation escalated dramatically.
According to the victim's statement: Patel exited the hotel room, leaving him with the other woman, who began to undress. Subsequently, a second unknown woman entered the room and demanded physical relations. When the teacher refused, he was threatened with being falsely implicated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Under duress, he was forced into a compromising situation, which was then photographed and videographed without his consent.
Extortion Demands and Financial Coercion
The accused then transported the victim to an isolated location, where they initially demanded a staggering Rs 40 lakh. After negotiations, this amount was reportedly settled at Rs 12 lakh. The teacher transferred the funds to Payal Patel's bank account. However, the harassment did not cease; the perpetrators continued to demand more money, threatening to file a rape case against him if he did not comply.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Bharat Basiya provided crucial insights into the case, stating, "The victim was systematically coerced and blackmailed. Despite transferring the agreed sum, the accused persisted with their threats, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior."
Criminal Histories and Modus Operandi of the Accused
Investigations have uncovered prior criminal records associated with the accused. Payal Patel was previously involved in a similar 'honeytrap' case registered in Ankleshwar in 2025. Tejal Tindani has a history of cases in Rajkot related to criminal conspiracy, issuing death threats, and extortion. Nilesh Zunza, who operates in the driving business, allegedly facilitated the arrangement of the women after being contacted by Patel.
Inspector BV Borisagar of the A Division police station confirmed that all three accused, including the alleged mastermind, will be presented in court on Friday. The police have requested a 7-day remand to further investigate the intricacies of the case and uncover any potential additional victims or linked crimes.
