Police in Rajkot have initiated a detailed probe following a serious complaint lodged by a 27-year-old medical student. The woman has accused a man, with whom she was in a relationship, of engaging in sexual relations under the false pretext of marriage and later using explicit videos to blackmail her.
Complaint Details and Allegations of Deceit
The victim officially registered her complaint at the B Division police station. The accused, also aged 27, is a resident of Gir Somnath district. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the two individuals developed a romantic connection after meeting on a social media platform approximately one year ago.
The FIR states that their physical relationship, which occurred at various hotels, was based on the accused's repeated promise to marry her. The man allegedly recorded videos of their intimate acts without her consent. The situation took a dark turn about two months ago when the accused began showing these private videos to his friends.
Escalation to Assault and Blackmail Threats
When the victim confronted him and objected to this violation of her privacy, she was allegedly physically assaulted by the accused. The assault resulted in visible injuries. The harassment intensified when she refused further physical relations.
The accused then resorted to blackmail, threatening to widely circulate the compromising video footage if she did not comply with his demands. Fearing for her reputation and safety, the medical student approached the police to seek legal recourse.
Legal Action Under New Laws
Based on the complaint, the Rajkot police have booked the accused under stringent sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include Section 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation).
Additionally, relevant sections of the Information Technology Act have been invoked in the case, considering the use of electronic media for recording and the threat of circulating the videos. The investigation is currently ongoing as authorities gather further evidence.
