In a heartfelt tribute, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav extended his warm greetings and deep respect to retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Jagjit Singh Bawa on the occasion of his 100th birthday this Saturday. The DGP lauded Bawa as a towering figure whose career has left an indelible mark on policing in India.
A Legacy of Professional and Fearless Policing
In a post on his official X handle, DGP Gaurav Yadav described Shri Bawa as a representative of a generation of officers who established the strongest foundations of professional, principled, and fearless policing. "The Punjab cadre has long been admired for its resilience, leadership, and national contribution, and Shri Bawa stands among its most distinguished exemplars," the DGP stated, emphasizing the veteran officer's enduring influence.
Personal Visit by Senior Police Officials
To personally convey the respect and greetings on behalf of the entire police force, Special DGP Headquarters SS Srivastava and DIG Personnel Amneet Kondal visited the veteran officer at his residence. This gesture underscored the high regard in which Bawa is held by his peers and successors in the service.
Illustrious Career Spanning Decades
Jagjit Singh Bawa's distinguished career began when he was enlisted in the IPS on July 13, 1951. He served in various districts as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Superintendent of Police (SP) before being appointed as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ferozepur. Over the years, he held several key positions, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Inspector General of Police (IGP), and notably served as the IGP of Punjab.
His service extended to the national level when he went on Central Deputation as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi on September 27, 1977. Bawa retired from service on February 28, 1985, after being granted a one-year extension beyond the age of superannuation, a testament to his valuable contributions.
Exemplary Service and Lasting Inspiration
DGP Gaurav Yadav remarked that through his exemplary service as IGP Punjab and Director CBI, Bawa upheld the highest standards of integrity, institutional strength, and public trust. "His life and career continue to inspire officers across generations," Yadav said, highlighting the lasting impact of Bawa's dedication.
As the police force marks this rare milestone, the DGP added, "Punjab Police honours and celebrates a century of life devoted to duty, honour, and service to the nation." This celebration not only recognizes Bawa's personal achievements but also serves as a reminder of the enduring values that define exemplary public service.
