Pune Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Infant Son to Start New Life

A shocking case has emerged from Pune where a 22-year-old woman's alleged attempt to erase her past and begin anew has resulted in her arrest after a month-long investigation. The woman stands accused of the brutal killing of her own 11-month-old son, disposing of his body in a well, and then vanishing from her home without leaving any trace.

Crime and Concealment

The woman reportedly married another man to initiate a fresh chapter in her life while keeping the horrific crime completely hidden. Her former husband grew suspicious when he came across a photograph of the woman with another man. He contacted her, demanding the return of their son. When she consistently avoided his inquiries and provided evasive responses, he took decisive action by approaching the Ranjangaon MIDC police station on April 5 to file a formal missing person complaint.

Police Investigation and Discovery

A dedicated police team, led by Inspector Mahadev Waghmode, meticulously traced the woman's whereabouts to Shirur taluka and subsequently took her into custody. During initial questioning about her son's disappearance, she fabricated a story, claiming the child had died after accidentally falling from a platform inside her house. Out of sheer fear, she stated, she disposed of the body by dumping it into a well located near her former husband's residence in Shirur taluka.

"We conducted a thorough search of the specified well and discovered the boy's body concealed inside a bag. To prevent the bag from floating to the surface, the woman had deliberately placed heavy stones inside it," Inspector Waghmode revealed during the investigation.

Confession and Motive

The officer further elaborated that during sustained and intensive interrogation, the woman allegedly confessed to the premeditated murder of her son on March 8. "She admitted to killing the child by banging his head against a cement platform. Her motive was clear: she wanted to leave her husband and remarry. She believed her son would become a significant obstacle to her second marriage and thus decided to eliminate him," Inspector Waghmode stated.

He provided additional context, explaining that a few days prior to the incident, the woman had gone on a trip to Konkan with her husband and son. "She became increasingly frustrated as the child cried incessantly throughout the journey. After returning home, she expected her husband to take them to a doctor for the child's distress. Instead, he left to attend a wedding ceremony. Irritated and angered by this perceived neglect, she allegedly carried out the killing of the child," the officer added.

Escape and Remarriage

Following the alleged murder, the woman took money from her house and fled. "Her first stop was Shirur, where she purchased a new cellphone to avoid detection. Subsequently, through a marriage agent, she remarried without disclosing to her new husband that she had a son from her previous marriage," Inspector Waghmode detailed.

According to the officer, the woman's first husband contacted her new husband on April 3, informing him that she could only remain with him if she returned the child. "The woman had previously told the marriage agent about the alleged accidental death of her child. The agent, upon learning more, informed the police, and her former husband also lodged a formal complaint, which accelerated the investigation," Waghmode explained.

Legal Charges

The woman has now been formally charged under serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:

  • Section 103 (Murder)
  • Section 23 (Causing disappearance of evidence of an offence)

The case highlights a tragic blend of personal desperation and criminal intent, leading to a devastating loss of innocent life and subsequent legal repercussions.
