Massive Communication Trail Uncovered
In a significant breakthrough in the Pune realtor murder case, investigators have discovered that the victim's fiancée and her alleged lover exchanged over 2,000 calls and held a secret meeting before the fatal incident at Lohagad Fort on June 18. The extensive communication, which spanned several weeks, has led police to suspect that the pair meticulously planned the murder of realtor Avinash Agarwal.
Secret Meeting Before the Crime
According to police sources, the fiancée and her lover met clandestinely at a hotel in Pune just three days before the murder. Investigators believe this meeting was crucial for finalizing the plan that resulted in Agarwal being pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort. The couple reportedly discussed logistics and alibis during this encounter.
“The volume of calls and the secret meeting indicate a premeditated conspiracy,” a senior police officer stated. “We are analyzing the call records and digital evidence to establish the timeline and motive.”
Details of the Incident
Avinash Agarwal, a 45-year-old realtor from Pune, was found dead at the base of Lohagad Fort on June 18. Initial investigations suggested a tragic accident, but post-mortem reports revealed injuries inconsistent with a simple fall. The fiancée, identified as Meera Joshi, was initially questioned as a witness but later became a suspect after inconsistencies in her statements emerged.
Further probe uncovered her relationship with a childhood friend, Rohan Deshmukh, who is now the prime accused. Call detail records show that Joshi and Deshmukh were in constant communication in the weeks leading up to the murder, with a spike in calls on the day of the incident.
Police Investigation and Evidence
The Pune police have seized mobile phones and laptops from both suspects. Forensic analysis revealed that several calls were made using encrypted messaging apps, making it harder for investigators to trace. However, the sheer number of calls provided a clear pattern.
“We have recovered deleted messages and call logs that point to a conspiracy,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sunil Pawar. “The accused are in custody and we are conducting further interrogations to uncover the full extent of the plot.”
Investigators also found that Joshi had recently taken out a life insurance policy on Agarwal, with herself as the beneficiary. This has added to the motive for the murder.
Impact and Next Steps
The case has sent shockwaves through Pune's real estate community, as Agarwal was a well-known figure. His family has demanded strict punishment for the accused. The police are expected to file a chargesheet soon, citing conspiracy and murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
As the investigation continues, authorities are also looking into whether the couple had any accomplices. The case highlights the growing trend of using digital communication to plan crimes, and the challenges faced by law enforcement in tracking such activities.
