Pune police cracked the murder of a 45-year-old businessman after noticing a suspect wearing a hoodie in 33-degree Celsius weather on CCTV footage. The unusual attire raised suspicion, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
The Crime
The victim, identified as Rajesh Sharma, was found dead in his office on June 20. He had been stabbed multiple times. Initial investigations revealed no signs of forced entry, suggesting the victim knew the attackers.
Police reviewed CCTV footage from the building and surrounding areas. They spotted a man wearing a hoodie and a mask entering the building around 10:30 PM on the night of the murder. The temperature that night was 33°C, making the hoodie highly conspicuous.
Breakthrough from CCTV
“The hoodie in such hot weather was a red flag. We tracked his movements and identified him as 28-year-old Ravi Patil, a former employee of the victim,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Deshmukh.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Patil and two accomplices, Sunil Jadhav and Vikram More. They confessed to the murder, citing a financial dispute. The trio had planned the robbery but killed Sharma when he resisted.
Details of the Arrest
The police recovered a knife and stolen cash worth ₹2 lakh from the suspects. They had also taken the victim's laptop and mobile phone. The accused are in police custody and will be produced in court.
According to the police, Patil had worked for Sharma for two years and was aware of his cash dealings. The murder was premeditated, with the suspects purchasing the hoodie specifically to avoid identification.
