Pune Police Arrests 30-Year-Old Man for Fatal Stabbing of Friend in Yelwadi Village

In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, the Pimpri Chinchwad police on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old man on charges of stabbing his friend to death and seriously injuring another. The violent altercation took place at Yelwadi village in Khed taluka on the night of January 22, highlighting concerns over personal disputes escalating into fatal violence.

Details of the Incident and Victims

The South Mahalunge police have identified the deceased as Yogesh Dhaktode, a 32-year-old resident of Varale village in Khed taluka. The injured party, Hrishikesh Pawar, aged 27, is currently undergoing medical treatment at a nearby hospital. Authorities have charged the accused, Amol Wagh, a 30-year-old from Yelwadi, under Section 103 (murder) of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reflecting the severity of the crime.

Background and Sequence of Events

According to Senior Police Inspector Vijay Dhamal of the South Mahalunge MIDC police station, the accused and the victims were all employed as drivers with a transport operator and were well-acquainted with each other. The incident stemmed from a prior dispute between Wagh and Pawar over an unspecified issue. In an attempt to resolve the conflict, Pawar, Dhaktode, and another friend visited Yelwadi on Thursday night.

"During the discussions, Pawar and Wagh began arguing with each other. Enraged by the confrontation, Wagh attempted to attack Pawar with a sharp knife. When Dhaktode intervened to stop the assault, Wagh turned on him and stabbed Dhaktode," explained Inspector Dhamal. He further noted that Wagh also stabbed Pawar before fleeing the scene. Both injured individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Dhaktode tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

The police have successfully apprehended Amol Wagh following the incident. "We have arrested Wagh, and our investigations are ongoing to uncover further details and ensure justice is served," stated Inspector Dhamal. This case underscores the importance of conflict resolution and the potential dangers when disputes turn violent, prompting calls for community awareness and preventive measures.
