A tragic hit-and-run incident near Pune claimed the lives of a mother and her son on Wednesday afternoon, with the police subsequently arresting the accused driver. In a separate accident in Alandi, at least 28 people sustained injuries when a pickup truck overturned.
Bhor Hit-and-Run: Details of the Fatal Incident
The fatal accident occurred near Bhor, approximately 50 kilometers from Pune city. The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Nanda Dhavale and her 27-year-old son, Amrut Dhavale, both residents of Telwadi village in Bhor. According to officers from the Pune Rural police, the duo had travelled to their farm on a motorcycle around 1 pm on Wednesday.
After reaching the location, Amrut parked the motorcycle by the roadside. While both he and his mother were standing near the two-wheeler, a speeding car struck them. The driver of the car did not stop to help and fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Local residents rushed the critically injured mother and son to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared both Nanda and Amrut dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and Arrest of the Driver
Launching a swift investigation, the Rajgad police traced the vehicle and the accused driver to Kharadi in Pune. On Thursday evening, the police arrested the 37-year-old car driver. He has been charged with causing death due to negligence. "Our investigations are on," stated a police officer involved in the case.
Separate Accident in Alandi Injures 28
In an unrelated incident on Thursday morning, a pickup truck carrying a large group of people overturned on Markal Road near Alandi. The accident resulted in injuries to at least 28 individuals.
The victims, who hail from Kuruli village in Khed taluka, were on their way to Perne Phata. They were travelling to pay their respects at the "Vijay Stambh" (victory tower) in Koregaon Bhima on the Pune-Nagar highway. Reports indicate that the overloaded pickup truck was carrying around 35 people when it tipped over.
Emergency services transported the injured to various hospitals in Alandi and Pimpri Chinchwad for treatment. The police are investigating the cause of this accident as well.
These back-to-back incidents have once again highlighted pressing concerns regarding road safety and traffic law enforcement in the Pune district. The arrest in the hit-and-run case offers a measure of accountability, while the Alandi accident underscores the dangers of overloading vehicles.
