In a shocking incident at a fort in Pune, a man was pushed to his death while taking photographs. The victim's fiancee and her alleged lover have been arrested for the murder, according to police officials.
Incident at the Fort
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Rohan Deshmukh, was visiting the historic Sinhagad Fort with his fiancee, Priya Sharma, on June 20. While Deshmukh was clicking pictures, he was pushed from a height, resulting in fatal injuries. Police initially treated it as an accident but later uncovered evidence of foul play.
Arrests Made
After a thorough investigation, Pune police arrested Priya Sharma (26) and her alleged lover, Vikram Patil (30), on June 23. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Patil, "The accused conspired to kill the victim to remove an obstacle in their relationship. They planned the trip to the fort and executed the murder."
Motive and Investigation
Investigators revealed that Sharma had been in a relationship with Patil for over a year. She was engaged to Deshmukh under family pressure but wanted to end the relationship. The duo planned the murder to get rid of Deshmukh and be together. Police recovered chat records and call logs that corroborated the conspiracy.
Legal Proceedings
Both accused have been charged under sections 302 (murder), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before a local court and remanded to police custody until June 30. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining if others were involved.
Family Reaction
The victim's family expressed shock and demanded strict punishment. Rohan's father, Prakash Deshmukh, said, "We trusted Priya as our daughter-in-law. She betrayed our son in the worst possible way. We want justice."
