A shocking incident of public fury unfolded on Monday night in Coimbatore, where an unidentified car driver faced the wrath of citizens for his dangerously reckless driving and stunt performances on a busy road.
Reckless Stunts Spark Public Outrage
The trouble began near a private college in the Peelamedu area of the city. An SUV driver was seen driving in the wrong direction and performing stunts, creating a wave of fear and panic among other motorists and pedestrians. Tired of the constant menace and potential for a fatal accident, alert citizens immediately informed the local police.
Public Takes Matters Into Own Hands
Police personnel rushed to the spot but found themselves unable to stop or control the errant driver. This failure of immediate official intervention prompted other motorists and bystanders to step in. The angry crowd first pelted stones at the SUV, shattering its windows. When the driver attempted to flee the scene, they went further, deflating the vehicle's tyres to immobilize it and then physically assaulting the man inside.
Intoxicated Driver Arrested, Identity Unclear
Following the public intervention, police finally managed to take the driver into custody. Suspecting he was under the influence, they took him to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a medical examination. Officers strongly suspected he was highly intoxicated, possibly with drugs.
"When questioned he first gave his name as Daniel and later said it was Antony," revealed a police officer. The driver also claimed to be a native of Thrissur who is now settled in Salem and mentioned that his father-in-law's house is in Kalappatti. However, due to his inebriated state, police could not verify his exact details or establish his true identity. A thorough investigation into the entire episode is currently underway.
