In a shocking case of police misconduct, two Dial 112 PRV constables were arrested on Sunday in Ambedkarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, along with another individual, for their alleged involvement in a Rs 2 lakh cheating and extortion case targeting a man from Gorakhpur. The incident has raised serious concerns about the integrity of law enforcement personnel in the region.
Details of the Gold Scam and Police Involvement
The victim, identified as Shivam Mishra, a resident of Rustampur Azad Chowk in Gorakhpur, fell prey to a well-orchestrated fraud scheme. He received unsolicited WhatsApp messages and phone calls from fraudsters who offered to sell him 50 grams of gold at a highly discounted rate of Rs 2 lakh. Lured by the promise of a lucrative deal, Mishra agreed to meet the perpetrators at a pre-decided location on January 13, 2026.
How the Fraud Unfolded
At the meeting spot, Mishra was approached by one of the accused, Pramod Singh, who demanded the payment while handing over a bag that was supposed to contain the gold. However, when Mishra opened the bag, he discovered it was filled with counterfeit currency notes instead of the promised precious metal. Refusing to part with his money under these deceptive circumstances, Mishra found himself in a precarious situation.
At this critical juncture, two PRV constables—Anil Yadav and Adarsh Yadav, who were posted in the Rajesultanpur police station area—arrived at the scene. Instead of assisting the victim, the constables allegedly threatened Mishra and forcibly took Rs 2 lakh from him. They further intimidated him by threatening to kill him if he raised any alarm or reported the incident to authorities.
Victim's Courage and Police Action
Despite the threats, Shivam Mishra gathered his courage and submitted a detailed written complaint at the Rajesultanpur police station on January 23. In his complaint, he clearly stated that he could identify all the accused, including the two policemen involved in the extortion. Following the registration of the FIR, a thorough investigation was launched, which confirmed the involvement of constables Anil Yadav and Adarsh Yadav in the fraudulent scheme.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
The investigation led to the arrest of the two PRV constables along with their associate, Pramod Singh. After undergoing mandatory medical examinations, all three accused were produced before the court, where they were remanded to judicial custody. In a swift response to the misconduct, Superintendent of Police Abhijeet R Shankar ordered the immediate suspension of both constables and initiated departmental proceedings against them.
Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Shyam Dev confirmed that strict action has been taken against the PRV personnel found involved in the crime. He also mentioned that police teams are actively searching for one of the accused who remains at large. This case highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain accountability within the police force and ensure that those who violate the law face appropriate consequences.
