In a shocking incident from Puttur, an assistant priest and his wife have been taken into custody for allegedly attempting to rob an elderly retired principal at his residence late at night. The event, which left the principal's wife injured, occurred in the Kasaba area of the town.
Violent Midnight Intrusion
The disturbing episode unfolded around midnight on December 17. According to the complaint filed by the victim, 84-year-old AV Narayana, a retired principal, two individuals wearing helmets and with their faces covered entered his house through the back door. Their clear intention was to steal valuables from the elderly couple.
The intruders did not just attempt theft; they allegedly threatened Narayana and his wife. A physical struggle ensued during which Narayana's wife sustained injuries. The situation escalated until Narayana managed to raise an alarm, which frightened the assailants. They subsequently fled from the scene via the same back door they had used to enter. Fortunately, no valuables were stolen from the house during the chaotic encounter.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests
Acting promptly on the complaint lodged by Narayana, the Puttur Town police registered a formal case. The charges were filed under serious sections of the law, specifically Sections 307 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to attempt to murder and other related offences.
The investigation that followed was swift and decisive. Police identified and apprehended the accused pair: Karthik Rao, aged 31, a resident of Muduru in Puttur who was currently living in a rented accommodation at Panja, and his wife, KS Swathi Rao, aged 25. In a significant development, the authorities also seized the motorcycle that was reportedly used by the duo to commit the crime. Police revealed that Karthik Rao works professionally as an assistant priest.
