Bengaluru Woman in Advanced Pregnancy Alleges Sustained Abuse by Husband and In-Laws

In a distressing case from Bengaluru, a 34-year-old woman in her ninth month of pregnancy has come forward with serious allegations of assault and prolonged cruelty against her husband and in-laws. Jyothi Pandey filed a formal complaint at the South Women Police Station, detailing a pattern of abuse that she claims has persisted for years.

Marriage and Initial Stability Followed by Escalating Tensions

Jyothi Pandey married Anuraga Pandey in 2017 in Varanasi, after which the couple relocated to Bengaluru where her husband was employed. According to her statement to the police, the early years of their marriage were relatively stable. However, she alleges that tensions began to surface during her first pregnancy. The first information report (FIR) indicates that her husband started questioning her character, leading to incidents of verbal and physical abuse.

Pattern of Harassment Continues Post-Childbirth

The complaint further states that the harassment did not cease after the birth of their first child. Between 2021 and 2025, Jyothi claims she was repeatedly subjected to cruelty. She recounted that while the family was residing in Tamil Nadu, disputes escalated dramatically, resulting in physical assaults by both her husband and her in-laws.

Second Pregnancy Brings Renewed Allegations and Abuse

During her second pregnancy, Jyothi alleges that her husband once again accused her of infidelity and forcibly evicted her from their home. Despite being in her ninth month of pregnancy, she asserts that she faced relentless physical and mental abuse, with no regard for her delicate condition. At one point, she sought refuge at her mother's home before returning to Bengaluru.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

The complaint was lodged after Jyothi underwent counselling through a women's helpline, which provided her with the support to report the incidents. Police officials have confirmed that a case has been registered based on her allegations. Authorities have stated that further investigation is currently underway to verify the claims and take appropriate legal action.

This case highlights the severe challenges faced by women in abusive domestic situations, particularly during vulnerable periods such as pregnancy. It underscores the importance of support systems like women's helplines in empowering victims to seek justice.
