Prayagraj Police Launch Pre-Holi Crackdown on Illicit Liquor Operations
In a proactive move ahead of the Holi festival, authorities in Prayagraj have ramped up efforts to combat the production and distribution of spurious liquor. The police, in collaboration with the excise department, are maintaining a stringent vigil across key areas, particularly in the trans-Ganga and Yamuna regions of the district, which are known hotspots for illegal activities.
Strategic Raids and Joint Operations
Joint teams from the police and excise departments have formulated comprehensive strategies to target illicit liquor-making hubs. Regular raids are being conducted to disrupt these operations and ensure public safety during the festive season. On a recent Friday, a coordinated effort involving Jal Police, Ghurpur Police, and the excise department led to significant seizures.
During these operations, raids were carried out at multiple locations, including Baswar, Palpur, Beekar, Deoria, Mohni Ka Purwa, and Kanjasa. The teams successfully destroyed approximately 70 quintals of lahan and mahua, key ingredients used in the production of illicit liquor, along with various manufacturing apparatus. This decisive action aims to dismantle the infrastructure supporting the illegal trade.
Focus on High-Risk Villages and Surveillance
The Prayagraj police have identified 22 villages situated along the Yamuna and Ganga rivers as notorious centers for illicit liquor manufacturing and supply. All these hotspots are under continuous scrutiny, with joint teams conducting frequent raids to prevent any resurgence of illegal activities.
A senior police official emphasized that the crackdown extends beyond physical raids. Activities of individuals with prior involvement in liquor manufacturing and selling are also under close surveillance. This holistic approach ensures that not only the production sites but also the networks behind them are targeted, reducing the risk of spurious liquor circulation during Holi celebrations.
The intensified efforts reflect a commitment to safeguarding community health and upholding law and order, as authorities work tirelessly to curb the menace of illicit liquor ahead of one of India's most vibrant festivals.
