Prayagraj Magh Mela Witnesses Security Scare as Youths Attempt to Breach Swami's Camp

In a concerning development at the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj, a standoff involving Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati took a violent turn on Saturday night. A group of eight to ten youths, who identified themselves as "core Sanatani sympathisers," allegedly caused significant chaos outside the seer's camp, attempting to force their way in before being repelled by his followers.

Incident Details and Escalating Tensions

The incident unfolded when the youths arrived at Swami Avimukteshwaranand's camp carrying sticks and saffron flags. They shouted slogans and made an abortive bid to enter the camp premises, which quickly escalated into a scuffle-like situation with the Swami's disciples. Although the followers managed to push the group out, the event created a panic-like atmosphere, raising alarms about safety.

Following the clash, the Mela police have ramped up security around Swami Avimukteshwaranand's camp. His disciples have voiced serious worries about his personal safety and have urgently called upon senior police officials to implement a solid security bandobast to prevent any further breaches.

Claims and Counterclaims from Both Sides

Followers of the Swami warned that any additional attempts to breach the camp could pose a serious threat not only to devotees but also to property within the premises. They asserted that the entire incident was captured on CCTV, providing evidence for the ongoing investigation.

On the other side, Sachin, one of the youths from the 'core Sanatani sympathisers' group, offered a different perspective. He stated that he and other supporters were impressed by the work of the Yogi Adityanath government. However, they became annoyed over Swami Avimukteshwaranand's comments on Chief Minister Yogi, which they found highly reprehensible. Sachin claimed that the Swami's followers allegedly exchanged heated arguments with them, contributing to the tension.

Police Investigation and Ongoing Developments

Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey confirmed to sources that both groups have submitted their applications with the concerned police stations. Mela cops are actively investigating the incident to determine the full scope of events and ensure that such clashes do not recur during the religious gathering.

This incident highlights the fragile security situation at large-scale events like the Magh Mela, where diverse groups with differing viewpoints can lead to confrontations. Authorities are now focused on maintaining peace and order to safeguard all participants.
