Prayagraj Lawyer Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Friend Over Rs 58 Lakh Land Deal Dispute
A 28-year-old lawyer from Prayagraj has been arrested by a joint police team for the alleged murder of his friend, stemming from a financial dispute over a land transaction worth Rs 58 lakh. The arrest was made on Wednesday by a combined force of the Special Operations Group (SOG), surveillance unit, and Dilipur police.
Details of the Arrest and Charges
The accused, identified as Saddam, a resident of Achalpur who practices law at the Pratapgarh district court, was apprehended with a 0.32-bore pistol and a live cartridge in his possession. Police officials stated that Saddam confessed to the crime during interrogation, revealing a premeditated plan to eliminate his friend, Aasif, due to mounting pressure over unpaid money.
According to police reports, Saddam had recently purchased a plot of land from Aasif for Rs 58 lakh. As Aasif began insisting on payment, Saddam allegedly started avoiding him and ultimately decided to resort to murder to resolve the dispute.
Meticulous Planning and Execution of the Crime
Police investigations uncovered that Saddam made two unsuccessful attempts to kill Aasif before succeeding on the third try. He exploited his knowledge of Aasif's strained relationship with his wife by planning the murder near her village, aiming to mislead law enforcement and shift suspicion.
On the day of the crime, Saddam left his mobile phone at home to avoid being traced, demonstrating a calculated effort to evade detection. A viral video on social media later showed Aasif riding a motorcycle with Saddam seated behind him, providing crucial evidence for the case.
Saddam allegedly lured Aasif under the pretext of handing over the payment money, taking him to a secluded spot in the forest area of Chaukhra village. While riding pillion, he reportedly fired two shots at Aasif's head, resulting in his death.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
Following the murder, Saddam contacted an associate, Sandeep Gupta from Badshahpur in Jaunpur district, and fled the scene. In an attempt to destroy evidence, he allegedly disposed of Aasif's mobile phone by throwing it into the Sai river from the Jiryamau bridge.
The joint police team's swift action led to Saddam's arrest, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in solving serious crimes. The case underscores the dangers of financial disputes escalating into violence and the lengths to which individuals may go to avoid monetary obligations.
Authorities continue to investigate the involvement of other individuals, including Sandeep Gupta, to determine the full extent of the conspiracy. The recovery of the weapon and cartridge from Saddam provides tangible evidence supporting the charges against him.
