72-Year-Old Pocso Convict Succumbs to Illness in Trichy Hospital

A 72-year-old convict serving a sentence in a Pocso case has died at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as V Kannaiyan, a resident of Tholurpatti near Thottiyam in Trichy district.

Details of the Conviction and Illness

Kannaiyan was sentenced to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. He was lodged in Trichy Central prison earlier this year in January.

On Friday, Kannaiyan experienced severe breathing trouble and was immediately admitted to Trichy Government Hospital for medical treatment. Despite receiving care, his condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to the illness on Saturday.

Police Investigation and Family Handover

Following the incident, police have registered a case to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. The body was subsequently handed over to his family members after necessary procedures were completed.
