A young man lost his life in a devastating road accident on the newly inaugurated Zuari bridge in the early hours of Sunday. The victim, identified as Sahil Kumar Pinjani, a native of Madhya Pradesh, was riding pillion on a scooter when the tragic incident occurred.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The accident was reported to the Verna police at approximately 4 am on Sunday. According to preliminary investigations, the scooter was being ridden by Pinjani's friend, Vinod Bajaj, who is also from Madhya Pradesh. The duo was travelling from Panaji towards Margao when the mishap took place.
Police officials stated that Bajaj was suspected of riding in a rash and negligent manner, which led to him losing control of the two-wheeler. The scooter subsequently crashed into the road divider on the bridge. The impact was severe, throwing both the rider and the pillion rider onto the road and causing critical injuries.
Aftermath and Police Action
Both injured individuals were rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim for emergency treatment. Tragically, Sahil Kumar Pinjani was declared brought dead upon arrival at the hospital. Vinod Bajaj is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
In response to the incident, the Verna police have registered a formal offence against the scooter rider, Vinod Bajaj. The case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is being led by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar under the direct supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar.
