Police in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district have taken swift action, registering a serious case against six individuals for the alleged abduction of a young woman and a retaliatory arson attack on her relative's home. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, involves charges of kidnapping, intentional insult, and mischief causing damage.
Chilling Details of the Abduction and Retaliation
According to the official complaint, the chain of events began on January 1. Sita Ram, a farmer residing in Baharua village, approached the Neuria police station with a grave allegation. He stated that a 24-year-old man from his village, identified as Paramjeet, had kidnapped his 21-year-old daughter, Rajni.
Following the abduction, the woman's uncle, Tej Singh, took it upon himself to confront Paramjeet's family. He reportedly warned them of imminent police action if his niece was not returned safely. This confrontation, however, triggered a dangerous and violent escalation from the accused's family.
A Fiery Act of Vengeance
In what police describe as a clear act of retaliation for being confronted, five members of Paramjeet's family allegedly targeted Tej Singh's house. The complaint details that the group poured petrol on the property and deliberately set it ablaze.
The family inside the house managed to escape with their lives, but the fire consumed their household goods and other valuables, causing significant financial and emotional damage. The brazen attack transformed a case of abduction into one involving attempted intimidation and destruction of property.
Police Action and Charges Filed
Acting on the complaint, the police have registered a formal case against a total of six people. This includes the primary accused, Paramjeet, for the kidnapping, and his five family members for their alleged role in the arson attack.
Station House Officer (SHO) Subhash Mavi confirmed that the accused have been charged under relevant sections of the law for kidnapping and abduction, intentional insult, and committing mischief by fire, thereby causing loss or damage. The police investigation is now actively underway to apprehend the accused and uncover the full sequence of events.
The case highlights alarming instances of vigilante-style retaliation in rural disputes, prompting authorities to take a stern view. The Pilibhit police's prompt registration of the case is seen as a critical step towards delivering justice for the victim's family.
