Vaishali Trader Receives Handwritten Death Threat with Shroud in Patna
In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, Ratan Choudhary, a trader residing in the Mahua police station area of Vaishali district, received a handwritten threatening letter along with a shroud (kafan) late on Tuesday evening. The chilling message warned that he would be killed "no matter where he hides", escalating fears for his safety.
Details of the Threatening Incident
The incident occurred at Choudhary's residence in 'Purani Bazar', where he operates a general store from the front portion of his house. According to reports, the threatening letter and shroud were delivered in a plastic packet, which was thrown at his premises. Family members immediately alerted the Dial-112 police team, but they alleged that the team refused to take action, citing the unknown identity of the perpetrator. Instead, they were advised to file an application at the local police station.
Mahua Station House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Ranjan confirmed the details, stating, "The threatening letter was thrown at Choudhary's place in Mahua Purani Bazaar. It was kept in a plastic packet, with another packet carrying a yellow-colour shroud tied to it. The letter was handwritten, but neither a date nor a name was mentioned on it."
History of Previous Threats and Police Response
This is not the first time Choudhary has faced such intimidation. The victim's family revealed that a similar letter was thrown at their house on January 1. At that time, police advised them to install CCTV cameras and registered a case linked to an old land dispute with a villager. Following that incident, a chowkidar was deployed at Choudhary's residence for 15 days for protection.
SHO Rajesh Ranjan elaborated on the previous case, saying, "A letter was thrown once before as well. At that time, a case was registered at the police station, citing an old land dispute. The letter came from the post office, and enquiries were made there, but nothing could be found out. However, the accused mentioned in the complaint was sent to jail."
Ongoing Investigation and Community Concerns
With the latest threat emerging, police have launched an investigation into the matter. SHO Ranjan added, "Today the matter of another threatening letter came to light. Police are investigating the matter. The case appears suspicious." The recurrence of such threats within a short span has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of traders in the area, highlighting potential gaps in law enforcement response.
The incident underscores the need for enhanced vigilance and prompt action by authorities to prevent such alarming acts. As the investigation progresses, the community awaits answers and hopes for justice to be served in this troubling case.
