Patna was rocked by a spate of audacious crimes over the weekend, as criminals executed two separate broad-daylight robberies, making off with cash and valuables worth more than Rs 10 lakh within a span of 24 hours. The incidents have sent shockwaves through the city, prompting a heightened police response.
Gunpoint Robbery of Collection Agent Near Beur
In the first shocking incident on Saturday, a collection agent named Manoj Kumar was robbed at gunpoint near the Beur turn, falling under the jurisdiction of the Beur police station. The victim was carrying Rs 5.25 lakh in cash, which was the day's collection for a private company he was planning to deposit in a bank.
According to reports, two assailants riding a motorcycle intercepted Manoj Kumar. One of them brandished a pistol, snatched the bag containing the cash, and the duo swiftly fled towards the highway. Upon receiving the alert, a team from the Beur police station immediately rushed to the crime scene to begin investigations.
Deepak Kumar, the SDPO II of Phulwarisharif, stated that the police have initiated a thorough probe. "Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area. The accused will be identified and arrested soon," he assured.
Senior Executive Tricked on New Bypass Road
Earlier, on Friday, another sophisticated robbery took place on the New Bypass Road under the Kankarbagh police station area. The victim, identified as Kundan Kumar, a senior executive with a Malaysia-based marketing firm, lost property worth approximately Rs 5 lakh.
The modus operandi involved deception. Two youths on a bike tricked Kundan into stopping his car by falsely alerting him that something was falling from his vehicle's engine. As he stepped out to check, one of the culprits seized the opportunity to grab a bag from the front seat of the car. The bag contained jewellery, two laptops, and important documents. The thieves then made a quick escape on their motorcycle.
Police Launch Intensive Investigation
In response to these back-to-back crimes, the Patna Police have swung into action. Regarding the Kankarbagh incident, SHO Abhay Kumar confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. Police teams have scrutinised the available CCTV footage from the crime spots and issued necessary alerts across the district.
"Intensive vehicle checking is underway to nab the accused," the SHO emphasized, highlighting the steps being taken to track down the perpetrators. The police are focusing on piecing together evidence from both locations to identify the criminal gangs involved in these bold daylight offences.
The twin incidents have raised serious concerns about law and order and public safety in the state capital, especially concerning crimes committed in busy areas during the day. Citizens are being advised to remain vigilant while carrying valuables.
