Massive Road Blockade in Patna Demands Justice for Student's Suspicious Death
In a powerful display of public outrage, locals and family members staged a major protest in Phulwarisharif, Patna, on Friday, completely blocking the crucial Patna-Aurangabad road near the AIIMS roundabout. The demonstration was organized to demand justice in the suspicious death of an Intermediate student who tragically fell from the fourth floor of a coaching centre on February 12.
Protesters Term Incident as Murder, Demand Immediate Action
Led by former MLA Gopal Ravidas, the protesters vehemently termed the incident a murder rather than an accident. They raised loud slogans throughout the demonstration, demanding immediate arrests of those responsible and calling for a comprehensive judicial inquiry into the matter. The road blockade persisted for several hours, causing significant traffic disruption in the area as vehicles were forced to take alternative routes.
Police intervention eventually came when sub-divisional police officer I Sushil Kumar and Phulwarisharif police station officer Gulam Shahbaz Alam arrived at the scene with a substantial police team. After extensive negotiations, they managed to persuade the protesters to disperse by assuring them that the investigation was actively underway and that authorities were taking the matter with utmost seriousness.
Tragic Incident and Suspicious Circumstances
The student died on Thursday morning after the devastating fall from the coaching centre building. Family members immediately raised serious concerns about foul play, pointing to unexplained injury marks on the body and suspicious movements captured in CCTV footage from the premises. These observations have fueled suspicions that the death may not have been accidental.
In response to these allegations, police have detained three persons for questioning, including two carpenters who were visible on the upper floor in the CCTV footage and the building guard who was on duty at the time of the incident. Authorities have formed a special investigation team (SIT) specifically to handle this sensitive case.
Comprehensive Investigation Underway
The post-mortem examination was conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna to determine the exact cause of death. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams and specialized dog squads have been deployed to the scene to gather crucial evidence that might shed light on what exactly transpired.
City superintendent of police (west) Bhanu Pratap Singh confirmed that the case was officially registered based on the family's detailed statement. "They raised specific suspicion about a particular youth present at the scene," Singh stated. "The SIT team is thoroughly probing the case from all possible angles. We are meticulously scrutinizing the CCTV footage, though it remains unclear at this stage whether someone pushed her or she jumped on her own." The officer assured the public that the case would be solved soon through diligent investigation.
Political Figures Join the Demand for Justice
Adding political weight to the demands for justice, Member of Parliament from Purnia Pappu Yadav visited the grieving family on Friday after being released from Beur Central Jail. The politician took to social media platform X to express his solidarity, writing: "The fight for justice will continue. Right now, I am leaving Beur jail and heading to Phulwari where a daughter, a student, was thrown from the roof of a coaching centre and murdered! We will fight strongly for their justice."
The incident has sparked widespread concern about safety in educational institutions and coaching centres across the region, with many calling for stricter regulations and better security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
