In a dramatic incident in Patna, two students from a private university were among five individuals arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 35-year-old businessman for ransom in the Danapur police station area. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that Patna police successfully rescued the victim within just four hours of the complaint being lodged, showcasing rapid law enforcement action.
Kidnapping Reported with Rs30 Lakh Ransom Demand
On Monday, a distressed individual approached the Danapur police station to report that his son, Sunny Kumar, a 35-year-old businessman, had been abducted. The kidnappers were demanding a hefty ransom of Rs30 lakh for his safe release, escalating the urgency of the situation.
Recognizing the severity of the matter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma took immediate charge. He directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of City Superintendent of Police (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh to handle the case with precision and speed.
Swift Police Action Leads to Rescue and Arrests
Shivam Dhakad, SDPO-I of Danapur, detailed that the SIT launched an intensive technical surveillance and scientific investigation immediately after the complaint. Their efforts paid off as they safely rescued the abducted Sunny Kumar within a mere four hours of the initial report, preventing any harm to the victim.
The police identified and arrested five accused in connection with the kidnapping:
- Rahul Kumar, Har Ranjan, and Vishal Kumar, all residents of Phulwarisharif in Patna.
- Himanshu Singh, from the Gunaur police station area in Haryana.
- Prateek Vajpayee, a resident of the Lodi Road police station area in New Delhi.
Notably, Himanshu Singh and Prateek Vajpayee are students at a private university, adding a shocking dimension to the crime. During the arrests, law enforcement recovered key evidence, including a car, a motorcycle, three cellphones, and two fake number plates, which are believed to have been used in the abduction.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation Details
All five accused were promptly produced before the competent court and have been forwarded to jail as legal proceedings continue. Further investigation is underway to uncover additional details and ensure justice is served.
SHO Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj of Danapur police station provided insights into the motive behind the kidnapping. He stated that the accused were acquaintances of the victim and were aware that Sunny's father had retired from the Building Construction Department of the Bihar government. This knowledge likely influenced their decision to target Sunny, who is also a businessman, for financial gain.
The police are delving deeper into the case to understand the full extent of the plot and any potential accomplices, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining public safety and cracking down on criminal activities in the region.
