Patna: Ex-convict in Rs 52 lakh bank heist shot dead near Vidyapuri Park
Patna: 2020 PNB robbery convict gunned down

In a shocking incident on Monday evening, a man previously convicted for a major bank robbery was brutally gunned down by unidentified assailants in the state capital. The victim, identified as Aman Shukla (39), was a key accused in the daring 2020 daylight robbery of Rs 52.33 lakh from a Punjab National Bank branch in Anisabad.

The Fatal Attack: A Family's Return from Therapy

The shooting occurred around 6.10 pm near Vidyapuri Park, under the jurisdiction of the Patrakar Nagar police station. According to preliminary reports, Shukla was returning on a motorcycle with his family after his son's routine therapy session for autism at a local doctor's clinic. It was at this moment that two attackers on another motorcycle approached from behind and opened fire at close range.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots. Three empty bullet shells were later recovered from the crime scene by the police. Local residents and family members immediately rushed the critically injured Shukla to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Preliminary medical reports indicated he was hit by three bullets.

Police Investigation and Criminal Past

City SP (East) Parichay Kumar rushed to the spot upon receiving information about the shooting. The area was quickly sealed for a thorough examination, and teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were summoned to collect evidence. Investigators are actively scanning footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the assailants and their escape route.

During the initial investigation, SP Parichay Kumar revealed Shukla's extensive criminal background. "Shukla had a criminal history. He was a key accused in the daring 2020 daylight robbery at the PNB’s Anisabad branch under Beur police station area, where armed robbers looted Rs 52.33 lakh after holding staff and customers hostage and destroying evidence. Arrested shortly after, he was released from jail only in May 2025. Additionally, he was running a security company in the city," the SP stated.

Possible Motives and Ongoing Probe

Police are exploring several angles behind the murder. The primary suspicion points towards old grudges, gang rivalry, or disputes over money distribution from past criminal activities. Shukla's recent release from prison in May 2025 and his involvement in the high-profile bank heist make these lines of inquiry particularly strong.

The investigation is being conducted from all possible aspects. Authorities are delving into Shukla's recent activities, associations, and his security company's operations to find a concrete lead. The brazen nature of the attack in a residential area has raised concerns about law and order, prompting a focused effort from the Patna police to solve the case swiftly.
