In a significant development in a high-profile case involving allegations of sexual exploitation and forced religious conversion, the parents of the accused King George's Medical University (KGMU) doctor were arrested by Lucknow police on Monday. The elderly couple was taken into custody from a rented apartment in the Thakurganj area.
Key Arrests and Serious Allegations
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Vishwajeet Srivastava stated that Salimuddin (70) and his wife Khateeja (67), parents of the accused doctor Rameezuddin (38), played a crucial role in the alleged unlawful conversion and miscarriage of two women medical students. One of the survivors is from KGMU itself, while the other is from a medical college in Agra.
A police officer closely associated with the investigation revealed that both survivors have provided detailed written testimonies before a magistrate. These statements allege that they were forcibly converted, sexually exploited, and subjected to miscarriage not only by the doctor but also with the involvement of his parents.
Timeline of the Case and Legal Action
The case came to light when one of the survivors submitted a formal written complaint at the Chowk police station on December 23, 2025. Based on her allegations, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under multiple serious sections.
The charges invoked include rape, causing miscarriage, and marriage by deceit under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Critically, the case also includes Sections 3/5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act. Subsequently, a second medical student from Agra came forward with similar accusations of sexual assault, forced conversion, and miscarriage against the same doctor.
Investigation Progress and Police Reward
During the course of the investigation, police uncovered the alleged involvement of the accused doctor's family members, leading to the arrests of his parents. The search for the main accused, Dr. Rameezuddin, continues intensively.
Initially, the police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to the doctor's arrest. Demonstrating the seriousness with which they are pursuing the case, this reward was increased to Rs 50,000 on Monday, coinciding with the arrest of his parents.
The case has sent shockwaves through the medical community in Uttar Pradesh and highlights the strict enforcement of the state's law against unlawful religious conversion. The police investigation remains ongoing.
