A woman from Noida has taken legal action against her husband and his family, accusing them of a shocking web of deception that spanned from personal appearance to alleged criminal activities. Lavika Gupta, a resident of Gaur City Avenue-1, filed a formal complaint at the Bisrakh police station, leading to a case under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Marriage Built on False Promises
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Lavika Gupta married Sanyam Jain on January 16, 2024. She claims her in-laws deliberately concealed crucial facts about Jain before the wedding. A primary point of contention was his physical appearance. Gupta alleges she was promised a husband with "thick hair" but discovered post-marriage that he was bald and used a hair patch to conceal it.
The alleged misrepresentations, however, went far beyond hair. Gupta has accused her in-laws of misleading her about Jain's educational qualifications and his true financial status. More alarmingly, she claims they hid his alleged involvement in international drug smuggling activities.
Threats, Assault, and Forced Criminal Activity
The situation escalated after the marriage. Gupta alleges that when she attempted to report her husband's activities to the police, he responded with threats and violence. She claims Sanyam Jain threatened to make her private photographs public and also physically assaulted her.
In a serious criminal allegation, Gupta states she was coerced into participating in illegal drug trade. She told police that during a trip abroad, her husband assaulted her and pressured her to bring marijuana (ganja) from Thailand to India. Bisrakh police station in-charge Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed this part of the complaint to news agencies.
Legal Repercussions and Ongoing Probe
Based on Lavika Gupta's detailed complaint, the police have registered a case against five individuals: her husband, Sanyam Jain, and four of his family members. The charges are serious and multifaceted, invoked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The accused face sections including Section 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), Section 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), Section 351 (criminal intimidation), and Section 316 (criminal breach of trust). Additionally, charges under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act have been applied. Police have stated that a further investigation into all allegations is currently underway.
This bizarre case from Noida echoes another unusual marital dispute reported earlier this year from Greece. In May, a woman there reportedly filed for divorce after claiming that artificial intelligence, specifically ChatGPT, interpreted coffee cup residue and uncovered her husband's alleged affair, giving a modern twist to fortune-telling.
