Nashik Crime Branch Nabs 24-Year-Old in Rs 4.5 Lakh Theft Case from Friend's Residence
In a significant development, the Crime Branch Unit 1 of the Nashik city police has successfully apprehended a 24-year-old man accused of stealing cash and jewellery valued at over Rs 4.5 lakh from his friend's house located in the Panchavati area. The arrest underscores the diligent efforts of law enforcement in tackling property crimes within the city.
Details of the Arrest and Accused
The accused has been identified as Sumit Rajure, a resident of Shrirampur in Ahilyanagar district. He was taken into custody on Sunday following a meticulous investigation. According to police reports, authorities have recovered 31 grams of gold jewellery, with an estimated worth of Rs 4.5 lakh, which was allegedly stolen during the incident.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Theft
The police have outlined a detailed chronology of events. On January 21, Rajure visited the home of his friend, Ganesh Shinde, in Panchavati. He informed Shinde that he had been involved in a family quarrel and requested to spend the night at the residence. The following morning, both Rajure and Shinde departed from the house together.
However, the theft came to light several days later when Shinde's parents, who had been out of town, returned home. On January 27, upon needing funds, they discovered that a portion of the cash they had stored was missing, along with some jewellery. This prompted an immediate inquiry into the matter.
Investigation and Recovery of Stolen Items
When questioned by the police, Ganesh Shinde revealed that Rajure had stayed overnight on January 21 and, the next day, had gone to an upper-floor bedroom to change clothes. It is suspected that during this time, Rajure took the opportunity to steal the valuables. Shinde attempted to confront Rajure by calling him on his mobile phone, but Rajure denied any involvement in the theft.
Subsequently, Shinde's father filed a formal complaint against Rajure, initiating a police investigation. The Crime Branch, under the guidance of senior officers, closely monitored Rajure's movements. On Sunday, they successfully traced his location within Nashik city, leading to his arrest and the recovery of the stolen gold jewellery.
