A devastating road accident on the outskirts of Nashik resulted in the death of two women and left two young children with serious injuries on Wednesday evening. The collision involved a scooter and a truck on the Kalwan-Deola Road.
Details of the Tragic Collision
The fatal incident occurred around 6:30 PM near Deola, approximately 60 kilometers from Nashik city. According to police reports, the victims were traveling on a single scooter. The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Anita Shinde and her 28-year-old daughter-in-law, Sunita (also known as Chetna) Shinde. Both women were residents of Varvandi and were heading towards Kalwan at the time of the crash.
Inspector Sarthan Nehete from the Deola police station provided details of the sequence of events. He stated that an empty truck, coming from the opposite direction, attempted to overtake another vehicle. During this maneuver, the truck driver encroached into the wrong lane, directly hitting the scooter carrying the two women and the children.
Children Fight for Recovery, Driver Absconds
The two children on the scooter, six-year-old Vidhi and three-year-old Pushkar, sustained severe injuries in the impact. Police confirmed that Pushkar suffered a serious head injury, while Vidhi sustained a fracture in one of her legs. Both children were immediately rushed to a private hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
In a callous act, the truck driver fled the accident scene, abandoning his vehicle. The Deola police have launched a search operation to apprehend the absconding driver. A formal case under sections related to causing death due to negligence has been registered against him.
