Nagpur: Woman Killed, Friend Injured in Truck-Scooter Crash

A tragic road accident in Nagpur claimed the life of one woman and left another fighting for her life on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred when a speeding heavy goods vehicle rammed into a scooter from behind in the Jaripatka area.

Details of the Jaripatka Accident

The victims, two women friends, were returning home on their scooter when the collision took place at Khobragade Chowk. The force of the impact from the 18-wheeler truck was so severe that one of the women died instantly on the road. The deceased has been identified as Reshma Sheikh (42), a resident of Yogi Arvind Nagar in Yashodhara Nagar.

Her friend, Shaheen Anjum Patle (40), who hails from Uppalwadi in Sudha Nagar, sustained critical injuries in the crash. She was rushed to a private hospital in Nagpur, where she is currently undergoing emergency treatment. The condition of the injured woman remains serious.

Police Complaint and Ongoing Investigation

A formal complaint regarding the hit-and-run case has been lodged with the Jaripatka police station. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Mohd Qamar Raza (33), who is the nephew of the injured woman, Shaheen Anjum Patle. The police have initiated an investigation to trace the speeding truck and its driver, who fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and questioning witnesses to piece together the exact sequence of events. The search for the accused driver is ongoing.

Another Recent Hit-and-Run in Nagpur

This devastating accident follows another fatal hit-and-run case in the city just days earlier. On December 27, a 41-year-old man named Kamlesh Mukundrao Samarth lost his life in a similar incident.

Samarth, a resident of Rani Durgavati Chowk near Adarsh Nagar, was walking home near BMD School in Nagpur at around 8:30 PM when an unidentified vehicle struck him. The driver did not stop to help, leaving Samarth with grievous injuries. He later succumbed to his wounds, highlighting a grim pattern of reckless driving and hit-and-run cases in the region.

These back-to-back tragedies have sparked renewed concerns about road safety and the enforcement of traffic laws in Nagpur. Citizens and local authorities are calling for stricter measures against speeding and heavier penalties for drivers who flee accident sites.
