Nagpur: Mother-Daughter Suicide Case Registered as Dowry

The Nandanvan police in Nagpur have registered a case of abetment of suicide and dowry harassment against five family members, including the husband and in-laws, following the tragic death of a 29-year-old woman and her mother. The victims, Akanksha Bramhe (29) and her mother Sangita Dhabale (52), were found hanging at their residence in Venkatesh Nagar on May 1.

Initial Investigation and Complaint

Initially, the case was registered as an accidental death. However, a complaint filed by Dhabale's brother, Vilas Pise (47), alleged prolonged physical and mental torture for dowry and other demands, prompting the police to take further action.

Accused Named in the Case

The primary accused include Akanksha's husband Lokesh (30), her father-in-law Sudhakar (60), mother-in-law Anusya (48), all residents of Om Nagar in Sakkardara, and her sister-in-law Prachi Duff along with her husband Amol, who reside in Nandanvan.

According to the complaint, soon after Akanksha's marriage, the accused allegedly demanded money, tortured her for giving birth to a girl, and repeatedly pressured the mother-daughter duo to transfer agricultural land in their names. Akanksha had lost her newborn two months ago. An investigation is under way to gather evidence and call detail records of each of the accused. Family members of the deceased have demanded strict and speedy action.
