Major Theft at Nagpur Metro Phase-2 Construction Site: ₹17 Lakh Iron Materials Stolen

In a significant security breach, iron materials worth approximately ₹17 lakh were stolen from the Nagpur Metro Phase-2 construction site. The incident occurred on Monday near Pillar No. 130, close to Khairi village in the Kamptee area.

Details of the Theft Incident

The theft was reported by Tushar Kuhite, a 24-year-old security supervisor from Parseoni who works for the construction company responsible for security at the site. Kuhite is employed by the company that provides security services for the contractor handling the Kamptee corridor portion of the Nagpur Metro project.

According to the complaint, unidentified individuals arrived at the construction site around 11 PM using a truck and a two-wheeler. The burglars proceeded to load valuable construction materials, including pier cap plates and cap top side shuttering materials, onto the truck.

Security Response and Burglars' Escape

When Tushar Kuhite raised an alarm upon discovering the theft in progress, the burglars abandoned their motorcycle at the scene. However, they managed to flee from the location with the truck loaded with the stolen iron materials. The quick abandonment of the two-wheeler suggests the perpetrators prioritized escaping with the more valuable cargo.

Legal Action and Police Investigation

A formal case has been registered at the Juni Kamptee Police Station against unknown individuals. The complaint has been filed under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to theft and related offenses. Police are currently investigating the incident and searching for the suspects.

Project Context and Security Concerns

The Nagpur Metro Phase-2 project represents a crucial infrastructure development for the region, with the Kamptee corridor being a significant component. This theft raises serious questions about:

  • Security protocols at major construction sites
  • Protection of valuable construction materials
  • Potential delays to project timelines due to material losses
  • The need for enhanced surveillance and monitoring

The stolen materials are essential for the metro construction, and their loss could potentially impact the project's progress if not recovered or replaced promptly. Authorities are examining security footage and conducting inquiries to identify the culprits responsible for this brazen theft.
