Nagpur Police Detain Three Bihar Youths for Drone Activity at Republic Day Parade Venue

In a security alert incident, Nagpur police detained three young men from Bihar for attempting to fly a drone at Kasturchand Park (KP) Ground, the designated venue for the Republic Day parade scheduled for Monday. The youths, aged between 17 and 20, were apprehended during routine security checks at this sensitive location within the Sadar police station limits.

Suspicious Circumstances Lead to Immediate Police Action

The trio, who migrated from Bihar and currently reside in Bhankheda, a locality near Mominpura in Nagpur, were spotted under suspicious circumstances. They had recently purchased an amateur drone valued at approximately Rs 9,000 from an online platform. According to their statements, they brought the device to the ground to practice operating it, claiming unawareness of the security implications associated with such activities at a high-profile event site.

Security Forces on High Alert Ahead of Republic Day Celebrations

The timing of this incident has heightened security concerns, as Kasturchand Park Ground is undergoing rigorous security checks in preparation for the Republic Day celebrations. The sudden appearance of the three youngsters attempting to launch the drone stunned on-duty officers, prompting an immediate and coordinated response from multiple agencies. Sources indicate that the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Special Branch, and even the Intelligence Bureau (IB) were alerted to the situation, reflecting the seriousness with which authorities are treating potential threats.

Intense Interrogation and Background Checks Conducted

The detained youths were subjected to intense grilling and comprehensive background checks. Investigators meticulously scrutinised their identities, travel history, and motives behind the drone activity. After several hours of interrogation and verification, no evidence of malicious intent or suspicious links was uncovered. The drone itself was inspected and deemed non-threatening, lacking any advanced capabilities that could pose a security risk.

Release Without Charges but Under Continued Surveillance

Consequently, the police released the youths without pressing any formal charges. However, a senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, "We are keeping a close watch on their activities" to ensure ongoing security vigilance. This incident underscores the heightened security measures in place during national events and serves as a reminder of the strict regulations surrounding drone usage in sensitive areas.
