Bareilly Murder Suspect Injured in Police Encounter During Evidence Recovery Operation

In a dramatic turn of events in Bareilly, a man accused of brutally murdering a 30-year-old woman was injured during a police encounter on Friday. The incident occurred while law enforcement officials were attempting to recover crucial evidence related to the homicide case.

Encounter During Mobile Phone Recovery Attempt

According to police reports, the accused identified as Vimal Kumar, aged 30, allegedly opened fire on a police team while being escorted for the recovery of the victim's mobile phone. The confrontation took place in the BDA Ramganga Colony area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bithrichainpur police station.

Police personnel responded to the gunfire with retaliatory action, resulting in Kumar sustaining injuries to his right leg. Following the encounter, authorities recovered an illegal country-made pistol and a spent cartridge from his possession. The injured suspect was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Background of the Murder Case

The police encounter is directly connected to the murder investigation of Pooja Rana, a resident of Sanjay Nagar under Baradari police station. The victim had left her home on January 12 for work related to an event management assignment but failed to return, prompting her family to file a missing person complaint the following day.

Investigation Breakthrough and Confession

Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya revealed that CCTV footage analysis provided a crucial breakthrough in the case. The footage clearly showed Pooja Rana entering a car belonging to Vimal Kumar, who hails from Badepura village under Hafizganj police station jurisdiction.

During subsequent interrogation, Kumar confessed to the crime, admitting that he had strangled the victim to death following a heated dispute over money. Police officials noted that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Body Recovery and Evidence Disposal

In his confession, Kumar disclosed disturbing details about how he disposed of the evidence. He revealed that he had buried Pooja Rana's body in a jungle area near the Nakatia river and subsequently dumped her scooty in a canal located in Pilibhit district.

Based on this information, police teams conducted search operations and successfully exhumed the victim's body from the specified location. The remains were sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather additional forensic evidence.
